On the 27th of October, second years paid a visit to Naas Library today to attend a Forensic Science workshop. An Ex-Police officer from Australia in the field of forensics led the workshop. Students were presented with a case study based on a crime scene and they participated in numerous activities utilising forensics methods in order to solve the murder of a 17 year old girl. Some examples of activities that were carried out involved fingerprinting, analysing shoe markings, mass spectrometry analysis, microscopy of garments and social media evidence. The case study also covered awareness in issues of drink spiking and social media safety. They were also briefed on possible options and requirements for courses that can be undertaken in colleges and universities after school.
