This year NCC has joined forces with forty schools and Education Centres nationwide to participate in Reflections on Practice, a programme adapted from the Japanese Model of Lesson Study. This has been developed to teach mathematics through structured problem solving where teachers work collaboratively to design effective maths lessons.
Teachers and other educational professionals will attend and present at a conference called Maths Counts in Maynooth University on 3rd & 4th March 2017. The conference is being organised by the Maths Development Team, a professional development support service for teachers led by Dr Anne Brosnan. The conference will focus on best practices in teaching mathematics through problem-solving and the role of Reflections on Practice in leading professional development in teaching. Professor Akihiko Takahashi will be the keynote speaker.
Reflections on Practice is supported by the Department and Education and Skills and The Maths Inspectorate.
