Venue: Naas sports complex
Opponents: Gael-Cholaiste Chill Dara
Score: GCCD 3 - 2 NCC
This was the first match of the year for our senior boys soccer team and took place against local rivals GCCD. After conceding within the first 5 minutes our boys battled back and levelled through striker Conor E. Conor produced a lovely lofted finish over the advancing ‘keeper with the outside of his boot. A finish which oozed quality and finesse. Unfortunately we could not see out the half without conceding a second. The halftime score could have been much worse but for a string of fine saves from eventual “player of the match” Ben R. Again our boys showed their mettle and tied things up through substitute Matthew Mc. He showed good reactions to pounce on a loose ball and side foot home in emphatic style. With 10 minutes left it looked like we would push on and take the victory. However, any such thoughts were quickly extinguished as GCCD retook the lead almost immediately from the restart. NCC pushed hard to find a third leveller but this proved a bridge too far and the game finished in defeat. Overall there were lots of positives, which bode well for the season ahead. Some standout players on the day were Cian K at centre back, Ben Mc in midfield and Sam Mc on the wing. Well done to all involved and thanks to their coach Mr. Bennett.
