NCC Girls Soccer

26-January-22
NCC Girls Soccer

This is a momentous time of year as we have just been able to put out and field 2 girls soccer teams over the last 2 weeks. This has been a big project for all the teachers and students involved to try and promote girls participating in sports here in NCC . We have been able to organise an u15 squad for our 1st and 2nd year girls as well as an u17 squad for our 3rd and TY’s. These teams mark our very first time being able to compete in a full 11 aside team for these age groups in our short history in NCC.

Soccer has always been a popular sport here in NCC with the boys of the school representing us all and competing with the surrounding schools at every age group. This however marks a special day , where our girls are able to compete on an equal platform to the rest of the students of the school and get an opportunity to experience lessons outside of the classroom. This is a goal that we had this year for Girls soccer in NCC and this is an example of where it is flourishing and growing.

Our u17s have played two games so far. Losing our first to our local neighbours in an away game to St. Mary’s. But they have since bounced back with a 5-3 win over Gaelcolaiste Chill Dara. Their experience from the first game helped with their performance and growth of a team. Goals coming from all over the pitch from Amy Neilan (x1), Hannah Mai Delmer Higgins (x1) , Gemma Greene (x2) and Kitty Ann Ryan (x1) .

Our u15s played their first game today with a 2-2 draw against Gaelcolaiste in an exciting tense game. We ended up being 2-0 down conceding in the first half but we were able to gain a well deserved point getting 2 goals in the last 5 minutes of the game ! Goals coming from Sinéad Egan and Layah Kenny !

Special mention to some of our new and old teachers stepping up and volunteering themselves for training and organisation of the games. Thanks to Ms. Lackey, Ms. Murphy, Ms. Shirran, Ms.Dooley and Ms.Malone for the much needed bodies for helping boys and girls soccer progress in NCC.

Another mention to our tenacious and determined girls who spread the word about getting soccer teams together and collaborating in organising the numbers to get an u15 and u17 team together ! A lot more fixtures coming our way and keep an eye on the website/social for any updates to check in on how they are getting on.

Keep up the great work 💪🏽
