Well done to everyone who participated in the Cross Country event in Stradbally, Co Laois on 1st February. Cormac Cullinane, second year, and Leon Sweeney, first year, both qualified for the next phase of the South Leinster competition. Congratulations to you both!
Gaelcholaiste Chill Dara in Naas invited NCC to have participate in a friendly match on Friday 20th January. Here is the match report:
Naas CC started the match strong trying out a new formation and each of them trying to prove they had a place on the next starting eleven. In the 4th minute of the match Oliver sent in a throw in to Alex Donnelly swift who converted a neat finish from an angle through the keepers leg. During the 11th Minute, Sean Joyce took a shot from outside the box that went slightly left of the post, which showed positive signs of attack from the NCC squad. Kevin Reilly also took a shot from the right hand side that was saved by the keeper and Sean again took a shot with his left foot but the keeper pulled off a double save. NCC pulled off some nice interlocking passes from Oliver, Mazin and Sean, where Kevin pulled off a clever flick into the path of Mazin who took a powerful shot in the direction of the goal that went just wide of the left post. The next goal came from a daring run from Sean down the left hand side of where a strong tackle came from the opposition defender but Sean gained the free kick . Sam Flynn took it upon himself to take the free kick from the edge of the box where it was placed in the futhest backlist corner where Oliver took a header into the back of the net. Great second goal to send us two -nil into the second half. Adam Bolster and Daire Kelleghan were proving quite a defensive pair in the heart of defence keeping the action quite in our half of the pitch. With a strong message of not conceding in the second half the boys stepped on the pitch looking to create mor changes to stay in control of the match. 5 Minutes into the second half, Alex placed a well paced pass through to Mazin who took two touches away from goal and converted the shot with a well placed accurate shot into the far left of the goal giving the keeper no chance in no mans land. The Gaelcholaiste reduced the deficit 15 minutes into the second half as a shot was taken from a lob over our keeper from outside of the box. Wahris brought on some creative play half way in the second half to give Sean a much needed break. NCC responded well to the conceded goal where Sam took another free kick that was on target and parried out by the keeper. The ball fell to Alexsander who pinged the ball across the box back out to Sam where he took a shot through the laces with power and deflected into the back of the net. With 15 minutes left there was drama left to spare in the game as the gaelcholaiste got some lively support during break time which a long range shot being taken that hit the inside of the post with Mezba clearing the dangerous ball off the line. Adam took control as a sweeper at the back as he took control of any balls over the top and pushed the ball forward in positive moves in attack. An excellent performance from the first match from the 1st year squad who showed great composure and control in the match situation and working out the positional play on the pitch. Man of the Match to Sam Flynn for his fantastic work rate in the middle of the park and finishing strong with a fantastic strike into the back of the net. Look forward to the league matches to come with a team full of fire and ready to compete. ![]() A massive congratulations to Josh Hickey 2nd year. Josh will be representing Ireland in the Mounted Pony Games competition on the 13th May at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. We wish Josh and his teammates the very best of luck. Well done to the 2nd years boys Basketball team who won their game against KTCS yesterday. A very competitive game and won due to a wonderful team effort. First years tried very hard and have improved greatly. Training Monday after school As we were all getting on the bus we felt very confident about our chances of winning the match. Everyone was talking about the match while travelling there and no one looked scared. When we arrive everyone took notice of how big the school was. When the referee threw the ball in the air everyone's eyes were on the game. Sadly the first years suffered a loss of 16 points 27-11. However the second years proved that Naas Community College weren't that easy to beat. Even though our team was smaller in height than the Kildare team it didn't scare us and the second year team won their match with the result of 32-27 by Astijus Zemaitis
Congratulations to Zakhar Kashich in Second Year who won two medals representing the school at the Leinster Swimming Schools Championship. Zakhar came first in the 100m Fly and second in the 100m Freestyle. Quite an achievement!
Many thanks to Newbridge Rugby Club and Leinster Branch for hosting the boys rugby blitz. Terrific effort by all and some real positive play. Fun had by all. Many thanks. Hugo Lloyd pictured competing at Kilossery Equestrian Centre on Sunday the 22nd January. |
