The world of virtual reality was brought into the classroom for the first time in Naas Community College on the 26th of May 2017. First year students were brought through to the centre of the Solar System with the VR headsets in the science lab. The class was structured around modelling and students worked at different activity stations. The reaction from each of the students was fantastic when they were immersed into a virtual Solar System and they were able to explore their surroundings. This experience demonstrates that there is an opportunity to bring VR into the classroom for a beneficial purpose alongside a structured lesson. Well done to all the students who were excited in trying out this new teaching methodology!

The following students received awards this afternoon for their outstanding contribution to school life in Naas Community College:
The Founding Families Feast took place last night. Students from some classes brought along savoury dishes of food while others brought along sweet dishes. There was an enormous assortment of food which was enjoyed by students and their siblings, parents, grandparents, and staff of Naas Community College. Student work was showcased and the Tidy Towns mural was put on display. Some students played music and sang in the gym while others played basketball or football outside. As it was an exceptionally warm evening many students and their families sat outside at tables and enjoyed the fabulous weather. It was a lovely way to celebrate the formation of Naas Community College in 2015 and its growth since then. Congratulations to the Green Schools Committee who were awarded the Green Schools flag in DCU today. The committee has worked very hard over the past two years towards earning the flag. This is a fantastic achievement for a new school in its second year of existence! Well done to all. Here are a selection of invitations to the Founding Families Feast created by students. We hope to see you there. Well done to Leon Sweeney who travelled to Santry today to represent Naas Community College in the Irish Life Health Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships. He competed in the long jump and the 500m race and despite injury, came in second place in the 500m. Excellent result! Wonderful event held by Neat Streets in Dublin, recognizing the hard work done by students across the country. Delighted to receive this award and well done to all involved! As part of our CSPE Action Project our class decided to host a fundraiser for Dogs Trust. We decided to host a Jersey day for the whole school. Every student had to bring in €2 in order to be allowed to wear a jersey on that day. All the money that was collected on the day went to our chosen charity - Dogs Trust. Our CSPE class has worked hard making posters and organising the event. We raised €193 for the fundraiser and donated that money to the Dogs Trust Charity. By Anastasija Culkova |
