On Tuesday 15th March parents of incoming first years attended an information evening at Naas Community College. Incoming first years and their parents are encouraged to view the Subjects page to view subject descriptions and fact sheets in order to help them decide which subjects to choose. Classical Studies is being offered as a subject choice to incoming first years in addition to those subjects offered last year. The Classical Studies Syllabus is available to download below. Completed subject option forms must be submitted to the school by Monday 21st March 2016 and are available to download below.
On Tuesday 15th March Naas Community College joined every school in the country to commemorate 1916 and to celebrate the present. Students played traditional music, read the proclamation, participated in a role-play performance based on key historic figures from 1916, and explained Irish flag raising etiquette. After students had played Amhrán na Bhfiann the flag had been raised by the youngest student in the College and the oldest student in Naas Community National School along with a representative from an Garda Síochána. Mr James Lawless TD planted a Rowan tree at the front of the school to mark the occasion. Invited guests included parents and friends from Craddockstown Nursing Home who afterwards were invited to a display of hand made and digital art work. On Tuesday 8th March students danced together in a Céile to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge. Presentations were made to students who made a special effort to speak as Gaeilge during the week. Maith sibh! Three student representatives of the school travelled to Croke Park on Monday 7th March to participate in the flags for schools initiative. President Higgins gave the keynote address at the ceremony in which representatives of every secondary school in the country were given a handmade flag and a copy of the Proclamation by a member of the Defence Forces. Rith 2016 arrived in Naas on Friday 4th March at 2:25pm when Naas Community College were passed the baton at Fairgreen and ran one kilometre through the town all the way to Tesco. This morning a literature quiz took place in the gym as part of Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) week. Students were faced with some very challenging questions as they battled each other in teams with some weird and wonderful names. The winning team of the day were called 'Eyebrows on Fleek" and finished with a total of 43 points. Team "Beiber Fever" came a very close second with a score of 42 points. The team that were third were called "Telly Tubbies" and finished with a score of 39 points. Well done to everyone who participated today. This afternoon there was a DEAR hour when students went to their base rooms from 3:00 to 4:00, had a few nice snacks, and settled down to relax and read. ![]() Seachtain na Gaeilge will be taking place from Tuesday 1st of March to Tuesday 8th of March. Lots of fantastic activities are planned. On Friday 4th March Rith 2016 is taking place with the aim of promoting Irish in the community through a fun, nationwide experience. On the afternoon of Tuesday 8th March there will be a Céilí taking place. On Thursday 10th March John Spillane will visit the school to do an Irish workshop with students. |
