Congratulations to Aaron Yar, Prism 2015 Junior School Champion. Although there was great work done by many students in the NUIG problem solving contest, and the standard was very high, overall Aaron's work was the best in the school.
Last class of the day on Friday 16th October was a little bit different than usual. Students participated in a BIMDAS Bazinga Mathematical Treasure Hunt as they raced around the school searching for clues and answering maths questions. It was a nice way to conclude Maths Week.
There was an excellent effort made by everyone who competed in Newbridge College today in the second round of the Cross Country Schools competition. All students did very well. Well done to Haley McCormack who came second in Kildare in the minor girls race and congratulations to the Minor Girl's Team who finished in third place overall. A particular well done to everyone who came training after school also!
Maths Week is a nationwide initiative, in its tenth year, with the aim of promoting awareness, appreciation and understanding of maths through a variety of activities and events. During the week students will participate in an online maths game competition called Manga High, a poster and tag line competition called Have you Got Maths Eyes?, a problem solving contest organised by NUIG called Prism, and a mathematical treasure hunt.
![]() Students and teachers raised money for St Patrick's Mental Health Service by participating in Funky Shoes Day on Friday 9th October by wearing odd or mismatched shoes as part of the Walk in My Shoes campaign. The campaign came about when a 16-year-old in St Patrick’s Hospital said he wished his friends could put themselves in his shoes. The thought struck a chord, and Walk In My Shoes was born. The aim of participating in Funky Shoes Day was to help raise funds and stamp out the stigma that surrounds mental health difficulties. Congratulations to Dawid Kurzydio who won the student category by sporting one purple flipper and one runner and to Mr Doyle who won the teacher category by sporting one gorilla shoe and one bunny shoe..... very fetching Mr Doyle. |
