NCC’s first game was against Cholaiste Chiaran Leixlip. This side was a strong, experienced team. The girls worked from the first minute on. Our Kavanagh twins did excellent work mid-field getting the ball out from our backs and working up the fields to our forwards. Leixlip had strong defenders which our forwards found hard to get through. Leah Best, full forward, was out in front at every opportunity and caught some great balls. Aoife Mooney in the corner did great work getting into space. Leixlip got 2 soft goals in the first half , followed by a point. Amy Kavanagh responded with a fantastic point. Kate Keogh was excellent full forward in the second half. Unfortunately we lost this game in the end but the girls played super.
The second game NCC played was Cellbridge Community College. Spirits were still high and the girls never dropped their heads after their first game. Kate Keogh got NCC on to the score board first with a great goal. Points followed from Ella Kavanagh, Anna O’Donovan and Aoife Mooney. NCC showed exceptional team work for their first day out. In the second half Ella O’Connell showed her skills with two fantastic goals , followed by another from Amy Kavanagh. Cellbridge struggled to keep up with NCC’s stamina. Lauren Gilhooly finished the game with a great point that came from a classy sequence of hand passes worked up through the forwards. Final score 6-6 to 1 point in favour of NCC.
The future looks bright for Naas Community College girls football.
